HISTORY OF NUBIAN AMERICAN ADVANCED COLLEGE

Nubian American Advanced College (NAAC) was conceived by Dr. Azhinoto Ozodio Ikpah, Ph.D. since 1972 after experiencing the versatility, adaptability, and innovative nature of American type 2-year community-based Colleges in Kentucky, USA. This vision was further re-enforced in 1981 when, on his return to Nigeria from Texas USA, he thought that the education system, being mostly theory and examination-based, needed to be reformed to include hands-on and job-specific related learning.

The College has the permission of the government of Lagos State, the approval of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the Federal Ministry of Education, and the accreditation of the National Board for Technical Education, while working to secure further accreditations from the Educational Regulatory, Accreditation Agencies and Commissions in both Nigeria and the USA.

Dr. Ikpah, as Chief Promoter, has gained the support of other revolutionary education enthusiasts and envisages the establishment of a university village/park for the permanent campus on a 200-hectare land within the country. It is also anticipated that online courses, Certificates and Certification Programs would be run to close the yawning gap for credible, quality industry-oriented education.

The community college (also known as a Junior College) by its nature is organic. The essential elements remain the same, but it is ever evolving to meet the needs of those it serves. NAAC will always provide a solid undergraduate/intermediate qualification (associate degrees) for students who plan to go on to a four-year college or university. At the same time, we will offer two-year National Diploma programs in Business Administration and Management, applied science and applied art, and offer job skills certificates, for the many who do not plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree.
